New School Plans
Representatives from South Lanarkshire Council presented a first look at the plans for the new school at the latest parent council meeting. We will hopefully receive some images soon to display on the website. It looks fanstastic!
Thank you to everyone who came along to our AGM. It was lovely to meet and welcome new parents to the Parent Council. Thank you also to the existing members that are continuing in the group.
The meeting gave us an opportunity to say thank you to two long standing members who are now no longer part of the parent council due to their children moving onto secondary school.
An overview of the past year helped us remember how much parent council have achieved over the last year in raising funds for the school and we can’t thank our members enough for helping us to do this. Thank you also to all parents of our school who continually support the efforts by attending events, donating to our fundraising and generally helping out.
First meeting of the term
Good first meeting tonight with lots of ideas for events and activities. Looks like we are going to have a busy few months ahead so watch this space for updates!
End of year donations to school
A huge thank you to all of our parents who have supported all of our events and fundraising activities over the last year. We are pleased to announce that due to your generosity we have managed to donate £2500 to the school! The well-advertised target was always to enable the school to buy ‘Tablets’ to support learning and we are pleased that this will enable the school to purchase a number of the electronic devices. However the members of the parent council also wanted our donation to be used for something that all the children could appreciate, therefore we have also bought books to support a literacy project in the new term and hopefully bring pleasure too. We would like to give a massive pat on the back to our parents, WELL DONE ALL!
Summer Swing Disco 23rd June
Thanks to all the children who attended the summer discos, think everyone enjoyed themselves! We raised £59.01 for the school after expenses. Thanks also to all the parent council members and parent helpers who helped to put the event on… we couldn’t do it without you!
Leavers Dance 17th June
The parent council helped to give the P7′s a rousing send off with a fabulous buffet at their leavers dance. Thanks to all the members who put tremendous effort into providing and preparing the delicious buffet, it went down a treat! All the children looked fabulous and were treated to a prom style photographer too for a keepsake!
Car Boot Sale and BBQ 10 May 2014
We all got soaked at the Car Boot & BBQ which despite the fact that the weather couldn’t make its mind up on the day still managed to raise £237 after expenses. Thank you to all the hardy souls that supported us on the day!
Easter Disco/Mad Hatter Competition 3rd April 2014
The children had a ball at the Easter Disco. There was a good turnout for the Mad Hatter competition with lots of effort put in by children and parents alike. Miss Ferrie loved one child’s hat so much she decided to keep it! Unfortunately numbers were very tight for parent helpers and there was a worry that the discos would not be able to go ahead. The children love these events and it would be a shame for them to miss out. Please volunteer your time whenever possible to ensure these events go ahead. Thanks again to all parent helpers on the night.

Every parent or guardian that has a child at Halfmerke Primary automatically becomes part of what is called the ‘Parent Forum’ for the duration of their child’s time at the school. Then as a member of that parent forum you are encouraged to have insight and input into school life. You can do this by attending the parent council meetings held in the school, assisting with events, or just showing your support with activities.
The meetings are a way of discussing topics, sourcing opinions and enhancing our children’s school experience. The events are a means to bring parents together, to ensure the children have fun and also to raise funds. The emphasis is always to build our relationships and to know what is happening in our school.
Halfmerke Primary offers an open door policy for all of our parents and welcomes involvement. We encourage all of our parents to have their say and get involved!
